Flight Log - 2011-11-13 - Roger Smith's Big Daddy Akavish

Flight Date: 2011-11-13
Rocket Name: Big Daddy Akavish
Flyer's Name: Roger Smith
Motors: J380
Expected Altitude: 400 Feet
Launch Site: NEFAR - Clegg Sod Farm
Actual Altitude: 420 Feet

For the second Akavish flight of the weekend, I didn't use the pilot 'chute.

The Akavish followed almost the exact same path as it did when launched the previous day.  It arced to the left of us and was flying horizontal when the parachute deployed.  With the wind dropping to nothing as the rocket floated to earth, we thought it might remain upright on landing, but it didn't.

I think the arcing into the wind is because the rocket is a little over-stable flying on the shorter J motor and because it needs a little more "oomph" from the motor.  So, I think I'll flying on a bigger J motor - or maybe a K motor - next time.
