I’ve begun working on a major update of RocketReviews.com. The main goal of the upgrade is very general – to make things work better.
I’ve adopted the Invision Power Services Community Suite (IPS) as the basis for the new version of RocketReviews.com. The IPS architecture is similar to the one I developed for the existing RocketReviews.com web site. Like the architecture I developed, IPS makes it easy to expand the site by adding new features (IPS calls them “applications” and “modules”) on top of the existing framework. IPS’s architecture, though is more robust and capable than the one I developed.
In addition to providing a framework for custom functionality, IPS ships with a number of full-feature applications including a discussion forum, an image gallery, a blog, and a chat application. IPS implements hooks allowing the existing application and custom ones added later to work together.

RocketReviews.com’s Featured Rocketry Blog Posts page list posts selected from rocketry blogs that are especially interesting. The page displays summaries of featured posts with links to read the entire post or to view a list of related posts. The Featured Rocketry Blog Posts page gathers the best of the rocketry blogs in one place.
With thousands of products listed in the RocketReviews.com Rocketry Product Index, the biggest challenge faced is how to organize the information.
One of the first things I did when revamping the EMRR web site into RocketReviews.com was to add “attributes” to the rocket kits and other products. The attributes include data such as the manufacturer, length, diameter, recommended motors, designer, and style of the rocket. The attributes are linked to similar attributes in other products, so, for example, you can quickly access a list of all Ring-Finned Rockets or all rockets with A8-3 as a recommended motor.
You can find a list of all the attributes by clicking the “By Attribute” tab in the Product Index.
